Rose Allen

In the school’s first year participating, Rose Allen lead her team to place in the Top 5 in the 2014-2015 Up to Us competition by creatively marketing the potential impacts of the national debt by different fields of study. She graduated with a bachelor's degree in Economics in December, 2015, and began working as a data analyst at the mobility consulting company, Associates for International Research, Inc. (AIRINC). Up to Us gave her valuable practice in explaining complex economic issues in simple and understandable terms. In her daily work, Rose looks closely at exchange rates and pricing inflation to see how the cost of living in different countries moves over time and how those changes affect the cost of expatriate assignments worldwide. She resides in Cambridge, MA.

George Batah

Deloitte Consulting, Co-Founder of the Syrian Youth Empowerment
George Batah is a New York based consultant and humanitarian activist. During his senior year at the Illinois Institute of Technology, George led his team to place in the Top 3 of the national Up to Us Competition among 22 participating schools. George’s Up to Us campaign convened multiple campus offices and students organizations for one mission, including the Office of the President, the Office of External Affairs, the Office of Marketing and Communications, the Stuart School of Business, the Undergraduate Business Council, Engineers without Borders, and the Student Government Association, among others. His campaign boasted classroom presentations, a “Debt vs. Ethics” panel, and a round table discussion with US Congressman Bill Foster. George’s participation in Up to Us was only the beginning of his involvement with education and activism. In 2015, he created a petition to increase the number of Syrian refugees to enter the United States and received over 300,000 signatures, resulting in real policy change to allow more refugees and an invitation to the White House. After this, he went on to co-found the “Syrian Youth Empowerment,” an organization to help Syrian high school students secure scholarships for college. The organization has helped secure admissions and full scholarships for Syrian students to attend Harvard, Stanford, MIT, Columbia, Duke, Brown and others. More recently, George has been awarded IIE Global Changemaker Award and has been named a Schwarzman Scholar, a Global Shaper by the World Economic Forum and a representative to the 2017 UN Social and Economic Council Youth Forum.
Angelo Bechara

Angelo led his team to first place in his first year leading the Up to Us team at Stockton University. With a keen interest in global relations and foreign policy, Angelo jumped into a student leadership role when he became a student senator his freshman year, and his campus’ Model UN Chapter’s Vice President his sophomore year. As a rising junior, Angelo interned at the US Department of State in a prestigious summer internship program working in the Bureau of International Organization Affairs, Angelo has a double degree in Political Science and French, and a minor in Global Studies. As an aspiring Foreign Service Officer, Angelo is currently earning his Masters in Middle Eastern Studies. He enjoys skiing, exploring different foods and wines, and cooking.

As a Net Impact Chapter member, John began “making moves” very quickly. Leading his Up to Us team to second place by reaching over 3,000 students on his campus, John was appointed the Executive Vice President of his Net Impact Chapter. As the VP, John continued to lead the team to accomplish their goals and master the art of effective team management throughout various sustainability projects. John received his Bachelor’s of Science in Corporate Innovation and Entrepreneurship from the Smeal College of Business at Pennsylvania State and will be interning with Ernst & Young Consulting in the winter of 2018 in their Financial Services branch.
Kayley Corley

Kayley Corley has a long track record of public service in her undergraduate career and graduate studies-- and plans on keeping it that way. Leading her team to place in the Top 10 in the two years she participated, Kayley is a visionary leader and effective team player. Kayley served on the University of Arkansas- Fort Smith’s Chancellor’s Leadership Council in 2013, and interned with The Democracy Project and with Senator John Boozman’s Office. Through her internship with Congressman Steve Womack, AR-03, in Washington, D.C., Kayley learned the challenges of public service first-hand, and more importantly, how those challenges impact the lives of constituents.

With a passion for sustainable business, Jared formed his own startup for sustainability products during his undergraduate career. His most recent product is one that aims at preventing one of the most littered products in the world, cigarette butts. Jared is passionate about business model competitions, pitch competitions, and any entrepreneurial initiative with a positive impact. He also was selected as the Up to Us summer intern in the summer of 2016 where he helped innovate the competition’s program design. Jared’s team has made the Top 20 and Top 10 during the past three years in the competition.

As an International Affairs Master’s candidate, Lotfi’s interests lie in creating economic structures that empower businesses in developing countries to create positive social change. Throughout his undergraduate studies in Finance, Lotfi acquired a strong foundation and interest in international development through attending conferences and extracurricular events, including the Up to Us competition. During his undergrad years, Lotfi was also a successful college athlete, leading his university’s tennis team to many victories and acting as a volunteer coach for the men and women’s team. Lotfi led his Up to Us team to place in the Top 10 during his first year participating in Up to Us.

Pursuing a career in community development and justice, Samuel believes historically underserved communities have been caught in a cycle in which only passionate and committed individuals can help get them out. After graduating in economics, Samuel plans on going to law school and then working with communities to do exactly that. At Jackson State University, Samuel is the captain of his honors’ college debate team, a member of the Omicron Delta Epsilon International Economics Honors Society, and co-founder of JSU’s Economics Club.

Rebecca was on the 2016 Forbes 30 Under 30 list for education and has an amazing number of many formative experiences for someone of her age. She founded two startups by the age of 20, had the opportunity to live in Kenya and completed environmental research in Western Europe. Rebecca loves public speaking, the word "plethora," and motivating people, especially on Mondays. She has a passion to learn as much as possible by being a student of life and questioning almost everything. She loves kayaking and other types of boats, but knows that the best ship is friendship!

As the Student Body President of Oakland Community College, Analine led her Up to Us team to place in the Top 10 in her university’s first year of participating in the program. Analine secured her county’s Treasurer to anchor an incredibly popular event on her campus that educated attendees about the national debt. Currently studying Journalism, she wants to use her education to secure a career as a television or radio journalist in broadcast media, and aims to help marginalized and underserved communities by giving them a voice-- and a seat at the table. Analine is excited to be returning in the 2017-2018 competition, and this time, is going for the gold.
Fiorella Riccobono

A rising junior at Florida State University, Fiorella is majoring in finance, economics, and social entrepreneurship. While she grew up in South Florida, Fi is a first generation American. Her main passions include using finance as a tool for personal and community growth and studying international economic development. Fiorella was chosen as one of two Up to Us 2017 Summer Interns where she helped develop and expand the competition’s program design to amplify the impact of future teams. She’s excited to return as a participant for the coming year!

A recent graduate of William & Mary, Sruveera currently works as an intern at Alliance for Health Policy, a nonpartisan think tank for healthcare policy. As a Neuroscience major and Public Health minor at College of William and Mary, Sru joined the Up to Us Competition and focused her campaign on the impacts of our national debt on the healthcare industry, eventually leading her team to 1st place. With community engagement as a driving force throughout her life, she hopes to one day combine her background in medicine, love of public service, and strong advocacy to enact systemic changes in the healthcare system and beyond. Before medical school, Sruveera will pursue a Master’s degree in Physiology at Georgetown University.
