Ilhan Omar

Ilhan Omar is the first Somali American elected to legislative office in the United States and the first woman of color to serve as a U.S. Representative from Minnesota. Born in Somalia, Representative Omar and her family fled the country's civil war when she was eight-years-old and lived in a refugee camp in Kenya for four years before coming to the United States. As a Member of Congress, Representative Omar is dedicated to guaranteeing access to public education, providing healthcare coverage for all and establishing economic justice for working families.
