Alumni Spotlight: Meet our Community

The Up to Us alumni community is comprised of passionate and diverse individuals working across sectors to solve problems and make a difference. Get to know some of our alumni leaders below. Evan Malbrough

Evan MalbroughUp to us Alumni, 2020 Evan Wayne Malbrough, a native of Smyrna, Georgia, is an honors graduate at Georgia State University and received a degree in Public Policy. He was a Research Fellow at the Department of Defense where he was in the Office of Legal Policy & the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Personnel & Readiness. Evan was a research assistant in extremist media studies in the Global Studies Institute at Georgia State University where he analyzed the media of groups such as ISIS, Tejrol-i-Taliban Pakistan, and Boko Haram. Evan has previously interned for the Cobb County District Attorney's Office, the Public Defender's Council, and the Office of Congressman David Scott. He is the recipient of the Alonzo F. and Norris B. Herndon Human Rights Scholarship and the PMAP Leadership Award. Evan served as 2017-2018 President of the Young Democrats of Georgia State University, an Amazon Prime Student Ambassador, and a Vote Everywhere Ambassador. Evan was a member of the Clinton Global Initiative where he worked in Prison Education reform, working in a writing studio for inmates at Metro Reentry Facility. 

Bisoye (Bisi) Oyelola

Bisi Oyelola headshotBisoye (Bisi) Oyelola participated in the Up to Us competition in Fall 2018. She learned valuable skills such as social media management, leadership principles, and how to run a successful campaign. She's taken on a leadership role as one of the Up to Us Alumni Leaders and collaborating with young driven professionals focusing on making a positive impact. Since participating in the Up to Us challenge, Bisi received her Bachelor of Arts from Temple University and two certificates from Harvard Business School Online in Sustainable Business Strategy and Business Analytics. 

She also served as the Community Citizenship and Outreach AmeriCorps Volunteer in Service to America with the Philadelphia Office of Immigrant Affairs, where she worked on community engagement and immigration policy in Philadelphia. She now is working at a non-profit food distributor and social enterprise called The Common Market. As the Social Enterprise Analyst, Bisi helps to manage the ebbs and flows of the business supporting its operations through financial accounting. In her spare time, Bisi volunteers with a women's organization called Global Women's Dialogue to bring women together to engage in cross-cultural dialogue. She continues to aspire to advocate and support vulnerable communities. 

Tallulah Kay

Tallulah Kay headshotTallulah graduated from Boston University in 2019 with a degree in Mathematics and has since been working as a software engineer at Capital One, based in Washington, D.C. In her spare time, she sits as president of the board of Just Streets, an organization that brings justice to our communities by advocating for people experiencing homelessness in Massachusetts. She became involved in Up to Us in the Fall of 2018 where she found a way to combine her passion for technology with her interest in community organizing by designing a web app for her team.

After completing the competition, alumni are invited to take on additional leadership roles. These roles help support the growth of the alumni community and competition. Alumni leaders also have access to exclusive leadership training and speaking opportunities. Up to Us is committed to supporting the professional development of alumni and offers a Civic Engagement Fellowship as well as other career support tools that will help you take the next step when looking for the right role.

Up to Us alumni are curious and share a passion for lifelong learning. By completing the competition alumni have access to special learning opportunities like taking online classes through Harvard Business School Online and UC Berkeley's School of Journalism Advance Media Institute, attending exclusive events, and meeting leaders in fields like economics, business, civic engagement, and media.  accounting. In her spare time, Bisi volunteers with a women's organization called Global Women's Dialogue to bring women together to engage in cross-cultural dialogue. She continues to aspire to advocate and support vulnerable communities.
