Mid-Campaign Update

Happy February, Up to Us-ers! Here at Tufts, we’ve already learned valuable ways to get the campus involved with some speed bumps along the way. We are so impressed with the videos and events from the Up to Us participants, and are excited that the campaigns are making a difference throughout the country.

Our campaign has been a learning process, but one with much reward. We were intimidated when other schools had hundreds of contest participants, and wondered where we were going wrong. In the past week or so, we’ve brainstormed and met countless times to discuss improvements. We’ve found that getting to students to take the quiz face-to-face stimulates great conversation about the topic, are trying to work from that idea. Getting people talking is vital.

This week, we are feeling confident. Our upcoming events featuring guest speakers are creating buzz on campus, and it is clear to us that students are truly interested in what we are doing.

Education, communication and engagement are the three words I would use to sum up our goals for the campaign. We are certain that our upcoming events will engage our community and get more people talking about the national debt, and we could not be more excited.

In the Up to Tufts interview with the Tufts Daily, Becky emphasized that our main motivation for the competition is to educate our community, rather than focus on the pride that comes from winning. For us, getting the greater Tufts community involved is vital, and we look forward to continuing to engage that community.
